Dave Philp, Cohesive’s Chief Value Officer, has been appointed as an Honorary Professor to one of the world’s leading centre’s for infrastructure technology developments – the Heriot Watt University School of Energy, Geoscience and Infrastructure.

Dave, who has been at the forefront of efforts over the past two decades to drive digitalisation within the infrastructure sector, has retained a close link with Heriot-Watt over many years in both project management and digital engineering.

He will work with the university to support teaching, its research in areas such as digital twinning  and to help nurture its collaboration with industry to provide ‘real world’ experience for its students.

The appointment underlines the depth of our capabilities and our position at the forefront of infrastructure asset innovation.

Dave said: “I’m really delighted to have been conferred this honorary title. I’m especially looking forward to further supporting Alex MacLaren, the academic team, and students in the years ahead especially in the development of digital-twin use cases.”

Last year, Heriot Watt announced it was part of a new consortium, the ENSIGN Energy System Digital Twin, designed to  support net zero ambitions through the development of a digital twin for industrial clusters.

It is also leading, with the University of Glasgow, a new research hub using digital twins to determine how transport systems can be decarbonised as quickly, safely and cheaply as possible.

A figurehead in the digital engineering field, Dave has held several influential industry roles. These have included being Head of BIM Implementation, based within the UK Cabinet Office, to implement the UK Government’s BIM and Soft Landings mandate, Chair of the Scottish BIM Delivery Group and Impact Director for the Construction Innovation Hub via the University of Cambridge.

He is currently Chair of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB)  Digital and Innovation Advisory panel; he is also a past trustee and previously chaired the CIOB Policy Committee. In this role, he led the development of the CIOB’s Artificial Intelligence Playbook 2024.

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE), Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and Institute of Civil Engineering Surveyors (InstCES). Dave is also past vice chair of BE-ST formerly the Construction Scotland Innovation Centre (CSIC).
